    Connectivity Tips for Gorilla Trekking

    • Download offline maps of Bwindi and surrounding roads before you leave Kampala — signal inside the forest is minimal.

    • WhatsApp voice notes and text work on 2G, but calls and video require 3G+. Set expectations with family before going.

    • Most lodge camps have satellite WiFi. Ask about it at check-in — useful for backing up gorilla photos.

    • Charge power banks overnight. Some campsites have limited electricity and you can't rely on charging during treks.

    • The drive from Kampala to Bwindi (8–9 hours) has variable coverage. Download podcasts and offline content before departure.

    • Rushing back online after your trek? Kabale town (near Bwindi) has reliable 4G.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does mobile data work in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest?

Signal is limited inside the forest during the actual gorilla trek. Lodge areas near park entrances (Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija) have MTN 2G/3G. Download offline maps and media before entering.

What network is best for Uganda?

MTN Uganda has the widest rural coverage and is the best choice for the gorilla trekking circuit. Airtel is strong in Kampala but less reliable in remote park areas.

Can I use eSIM in Uganda?

Yes. Safari eSIM connects to MTN and Airtel Uganda networks, covering the main tourist circuit from Entebbe to Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth NP, and Murchison Falls.

Is there WiFi at gorilla trekking lodges?

Most mid-range and luxury lodges offer satellite WiFi. Speeds are typically 2–10 Mbps — fine for messaging and email, but slow for large video uploads.
